Why do swim goggles fog up?
Fog forms when warm, moist air from your face meets a cooler lens and condenses into tiny droplets. Silicone goggles trap more heat and humidity than other frames, which makes effective anti-fog treatment essential. Buyers who skip coating quality checks often end up with returns from unhappy swimmers.
How anti-fog coatings are applied
Most factories apply a hydrophilic coating to the inner lens that spreads moisture into a thin, invisible film instead of droplets. Coating methods range from dipping and spraying to plasma treatment. Higher-quality coatings are baked or cured onto the lens surface so they survive weeks of regular use and repeated wiping.
How to test anti-fog quality as a buyer
Ask your supplier for water-test samples before mass production. Hold the lens over steam for ten seconds and check whether droplets form. Rub the inner lens lightly to simulate cleaning, then repeat the steam test. A coating that survives both steps without streaking is worth paying extra for.
Specify anti-fog in your order contract
Do not rely on a verbal promise. Write the coating method, expected lifespan, and acceptance test into your purchase order. Also confirm whether the coating is applied before or after the lens is glued into the frame, because assembly steps can damage cheap coatings. Getting this right reduces quality complaints dramatically.
